AGARTALA, Sep 15 (TIWN): On the occasion of Engineers' Day, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has asked the Junior Engineers to take major responsibilities to maintain the roadways.

CM urged the engineers to check the quality of the roads in each 15 days.

“Take responsibilities of your own areas. A new road does not mean that it needs no maintenance for 1 year. You should check them in every 15 days. If in time action is not taken, then it becomes more costlier and hard to maintain later”, CM told the Junior Engineers.

52nd Engineers’ Day is being celebrated state-wide. Along with the whole country Tripura Engineering Colleges are also celebrating the day with full enthusiasm.

On this occasion, a rally kicked off from Agartala Rabindra Bhawan, and they walked around the City & again reunited before  Rabindra Bhawan. Various students from Engineering Colleges joined in that rally.

As per the data, India produces close to 20 lakh engineers every year, with disciplines ranging from computer science and electronics to civil and mechanical engineering.

Country celebrates Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’s birth anniversary as Engineers' Day.

Visvesvaraya, an eminent Indian engineer, was born in a remote village of Karnataka, the state that is incidentally now the hi-tech state of the country.

Due to his outstanding contribution to the society, Government of India conferred 'Bharat Ratna' on this legend in the year 1955." He was also awarded the British knighthood by King George V, and hence has the honorific "sir".
