AGARTALA, Aug 15 (TIWN): Countering BJP’s “Being Patriot†claims, Tripura Congress on the 73rd Independence Day has hit Modi Govt by comparing it with British rule and saying, the saffron had no contribution in freedom fight movements. Almost all freedom fighters belonged to Congress back in 1947. Tripura Congress leader Gopal Roy on this Independence Day celebration said, “Lakhs of Congress members were martyred from Khudiram Bose to Binoy Badal Dinesh. Uncountable martyred great figures the Congress history is carrying and we are again ready to be martyred under this Modi’s JUMLA eraâ€.He said they all were Congress either Vallabhbhai Patel or Mahatma Gandhi who ended British rule from India. “Don’t forget few political parties did only Dalali of the British. This India which didn’t have anything today is considered among the developed countries and the journey started since Jawaharlal Nehru first time hoisted Indian flag at the Red-fortâ€.“On the 73rd Independence Day nothing is secured. Newspaper offices are attacked, attacked are each citizen’s rights. Secularism can't be argued in Independent India but alas today our country's unity is under threatâ€, he said.
Roy also mentioned, it should not be forgotten that the base of our constitution is secularism and without secularism our country can not go ahead.
"Unity amid diversity is our pride. If the unity is broken, India will lose its glory", he added.
"India is world-famous due to Congress Govt's good governance. The Govt made the people able to stand on their feet. We reached the sky, we invented satellites. People in India were very poor and from there country today is efficient in food", another State Congress leader said.
At Delhi, the former Congress President Rahul Gandhi greeted the nation on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day and raksha bandhan.
Extending his Independence Day greetings, Rahul Gandhi used the words of Mahatma Gandhi and tweeted: "Complete independence will be complete only to the extent of our approach in practice to truth and non-violence -- Mahatma Gandhi." "My best wishes to all of you on this our 73rd Independence Day," he wrote.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday called upon the nation to rise and stand against every act of injustice, intolerance and discrimination to truly cherish freedom.
“We must rise as a nation to stand against every act of injustice, intolerance and discrimination to truly cherish our freedom,” she said.
