AGARTALA, July 26 (TIWN): Rain deficiency levels in Northeast India have improved wherein Assam and Meghalaya are just deficit by one percent, Arunachal Pradesh by five percent whereas Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are rain deficient by 15%. In the past 24 hours, Pasighat recorded 38.7 mm of rains while Cherrapunjee witnessed 114.8 mm of rainfall with 9.5 mm of rains in Shillong.

At present, the axis of Monsoon Trough is extending up to Nagaland across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Assam. Although, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have been witnessing moderate to heavy rains for the last few days and these rains are likely to continue for another 24 hours. Post this, the rain activities over these regions will see a dip because of the shifting of Trough toward South. However, Mizoram and Tripura might record moderate to heavy rains until July 27.

In wake of heavy rains over parts of Assam, flood situation still continues to remain gloomy. By July 29, the Monsoon Trough will once again start shifting to North that would lead to the revival of Monsoon activities over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Hence, we can say that the northeastern states will continue to witness good rain and thundershowers for the rest of July.
