Santirbazar, Oct 22 (TIWN): Muhuripur Rajeswari Kali Mandir , a rare 8th Century old Statue in Temple is situated near Muhuri River by the side of Pilak Tourist Spot under Santirbazar Sub Division.
The 18-handed Mahayana statue, from about 8th century, was placed in a Hindu temple, Raj Rajeswari Temple at an obscure Muhuripur village in Belonia subdivision in South Tripura. "The statue was discovered in the area about 70 years ago and was housed in an Akhra run by a Sanyashi Harananda Giri. Later the Goddess Kali was worshiped by devotee Radharani Bhairabi as 'Raj Rajeswari'.
“We recently formed a committee and built a temple, brought the idol here. The six feet tall idol was more than one ton in weight and we had to use bulldozer to bring the deity here", said Rakhal Datta, secretary of the Puja Committee.
It is the eight year of Raj Rajeswari Tourist Festival .On the eve of Kali Puja, Muhuripur Mela committee organized cultural festivals for 3 days. Moreover, one facilitation programme to be held for meritorious students under Muhuripur Gram Panchayat and “Vidyasagar Awardee” Teacher Sri Manoj Sarkar for his dedicated service towards his students, to all pensioner Teachers of the area.
