Agartala, Oct 19 (TIWN): Oil India Limited (OIL) Sunday felicitated Dipa karmakar, an artistic gymnast who won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games- 2014 for her efforts to bring glory in the nation and for being a role model for young women in the country. Dipa became first Indian Woman gymnast to do so in the history of games. The felicitation ceremony was organized at Nazrul Kalakshetra Auditorium in Agartala, here today.
The Oil India Limited felicitated Dipa in a traditional Assamese style and with a cheque of Rs 5 Lakh. OIL’s initiative to felicitate Dipa reflects Company’s commitment towards encouraging sports and an inspiration to the upcoming sportsperson. It is also intended to help sportspersons of outstanding excellence to pursue and continue to give their best in further pursuit of the sports of their choice.
In his keynote address, Director of Human Resource and Business Development, OIL- Nripen Kumar Bharali said, Oil has always given top priority towards all-round development of sports and sportsperson in its areas of operation. OIL being a responsible Corporate Citizen under its CSR activities, rural sports are conducted in order to provided a platform to the budding talents from the rural parts of OIL’s operational areas, he said.
Bharali further asserted that apart from rural sports, OIL has provided assistance to several schools and sports organizations benefiting large number of youth along with financial assistances towards many sports events in OIL’s operational areas.
During the felicitation programme, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports- Sahid Chowdhury, General Manager (Administration and Public Relation), OIL- Nirod Ranjan Deka, Resident Chief Executive, OIL- Varunoday Sharma and many other dignitaries were remained present.
