2nd consignment of Andhra rice is likely to arrive on October 17: Deputy Director of Food Department

Agartala, October 15 (TIWN): The second consignment of Andhra rice was supposed to arrive in the State on Wednesday. But due to some problems it cannot be arrive in the schedule time. Though, it had already reached the Ashuganj port.”The consignment will arrive by day after tomorrow , said the Deputy Director of Food, Sekhar lal Das, here today.

Earlier, Director of Food, Soumitra Bandhapadhaya told that trucks loaded with 5thousand metric ton rice were schedule to arrive at Akhaura Check Post today.

It is to be mentioned here that, the first consignment of 5 thousand metric ton arrived in the state in the month of August. Highly placed sources in the Food department said that, the duration of the second consignment had been extended to one hour. Earlier the time was 8 am and it is now extended to 9am.

The source further mentioned that, after primary inspection in the border, the rice laded trucks will be sent to the Nandannagar FCI godown.

It is to be mentioned that the three ships carrying 5,000 metric ton of rice from Visakhapatnam port in Andhra Pradesh reached Kolkata port earlier this week. From where the three ships left for Ashuganj port two days back. Tripura Food, Civil Supplies and finance Minister Bhanulal Saha said: "The rice is being ferried via Bangladesh to avoid the long and mountainous surface road up to Tripura via Assam and Meghalaya. As the railway service disrupts, now the way through Bangladesh deserves to be the major way for import of rice and other essential commodities.
