Human Rights Organization condemns attack on arrested Tripura Journalist at Court Premise, blames Police for failure to safeguard an accused

AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, April 30 (TIWN): Tripura Human Rights Organization executive member Koushik Nath has condemned the ugly attack on arrested journalist Saikat Talapatra on yesterday while Saikat was being taken inside the court for trial. The whole attack on the journalist even though identified was held under BJP’s Mohila Morcha activists, but police Headquarter directly denied for having any such information about the attack on the accused. Saikat was arrested for a facebook post where he never mentioned any person’s name. A national media has reported, Tripura Human Rights Organization (THRO) executive member Kaushik Nath blamed police for safeguarding the accused inside the court. Condemning the attack, he said, “He is just an accused and court yet to announce the judgement. This attack is illegal and never seen”.Saikat Talapatra’s advocate Purushittom Roy Barman said that the hearing is welcome but it’s surprising how the court sent him for 3 days police remand when no case exists against him.Tomorrow is Saikat’s next hearing.

Saikat is a journalist from state Tripura, worked in various media houses, famous for his controversial comments but under the Biplab Deb Govt, Saikat along with many other journalists are facing the fire of Govt’s grudge.Court has sent him for 3 days police remand and the next hearing will be pronounced on tomorrow.

TIWN Editor Saumen Sarkar has condemned BJP’s planned attack on the senior journalist who was politically targeted. On Sunday evening Hallabol Channel former reporter Saikat Talapatra was arrested from Agartala Airport when he was flying to Kolkata after fabricated case was lodged against him. The case was lodged after he posted about Biplab Deb and allegedly shared news published in various national media about the ongoing divorce case of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb and his wife. Saikat Talapatra also didn’t directly mentioned any name in his post but still police lodged FIR and today he would produced before the court.

Hallabol Channel Editor Prasanta Bhattacharjee said, he will fight for his staff at court. Another police official Jamal Hussein was also arrested after he shared news about the divorce case of Biplab Deb and his wife, but immediately he was released in court order as sharing a news doesn’t consider as crime.
