Agartala, October 14 (TIWN): “Police should be friendly persons”. Governor Padmanabhan Balakrishna Achariya on Tuesday told this over a formal press meet with the media persons at Raj Bhawan. This remark is made in refernce to the case of Soma Majumder. However Mr.Achariya discussed the issue with the IGP and Chairperson of Tripura Women Commission(TWC).

Governor Mr. Achariya on Tuesday called a formal press meet with the media persons. Apart from discussing about the important points about state, issue of brutal assault of Soma Majumder at Tata Kalibari Chandrapur got most attention. Governor told that this kind of incident is a big shame for the society.  "Women, Scheduled caste, Schedled Tribes should be given proper honour",  He further added. The culprits connected with this case must be punished and law should be more strictly appliedl. However Mr.Achariya yesterday met with the IGP of Police Anurag Dhyankar and the Chairman of TWC Purnima Roy.

While discussing the issue Governor instructed the IGP to take strong step in any case relating to the inhuman torture on anybody. He advised them to be friendlier and proceed without any fear or favour. “You should not come under any pressure”- P.B.Achariya further told to the IGP.

On the other hand, while meeting with the Chairman of TWC, Mr. Achariya wanted to know the role of Women’s commission in this regard. He told that it is the duty of the Women’s commission to protect the rights of women. Like National Women’s Commission, every state has State Women’s Commission. So; responsibility had been vested on them to bring justice to all the womens of the State.

Further clarifying the points, Governor told that the condition before Independence and after independence,  roles changed for Police. Before Independence British rule continued in the country and police acted as inhuman. Now time has changed. Police should cut a clean figure in the society. They should protect the rights of overall people. But more stress should be laid upon scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and women minority. During the time of Worship of Maa Durga, a part of Maa has been put under inhuman torture by eighteen persons should be an absolute matter of shamefor the state.

It is to be mentioned here that the victim, Soma Majumder on yesterday met with Govenor and showed the video of inhuman torture upon her and demands for justice. Governor had assured her a proper justice.
