AGARTALA, March 8 (TIWN): Recently Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb in a programme attended by Police Accountability Commissioner, DGP, Advocate General instructed police to work only under the instruction of Govt which is made of either elected members or the cabinet.

The reaction came from Biplab Deb after Advocate General Arun Kanti Bhowmik said that police often works under pressure of ruling govt. Biplab Deb reacting over his statement said, “Ofcourse, Police have to follow the Govt”. CPI-M State General Secretary Gautam Das expressed shocks over CM's statement. He also said that an SP is more powerful than a DM and the elected member of any area is the highest authority and thus police have to listen to him/ her. He also suggested, like a Chief Minister OC can call ‘Janata Durbar’ and OC is responsible for each crime happening in own areas. Biplab Deb further said, “Police are bound by Govt. Whatever Govt will say, police will do that. The opposition may criticize it but police have to listen to the Govt and the elected members as people chose the candidates and it is the by-the-people Govt”. However, in case of local opposition leaders, the scenario is totally opposite under Biplab Govt and police in Tripura are bound to act according to Ruling party’s interest. Moreover, police in Tripura have appeared before the court many times due to illegal actions and according to the law, only police were responsible for their faulty works under political influence and no Minister, CM or leader is liable to the court.
