AGARTALA, March 7 (TIWN): National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials have interrogated Nazir Sheikh at AD Nagar Police Station who was detained by Tripura police on March 5 as suspected terrorist.
On yesterday court has sent Sheikh for 12 days police remand.
Sheikh is suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorist. He is 25 years old.
After the arrest, while briefing, Tripura DGP A K Shukla said that Sheikh is a resident of Mushishabad, West Bengal, connected with JMB organization.
“Via sources, we knew that the man is trained in Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). JMB did various terror activities in Bangladesh as well as in India. JMB also planned for blasting three IEDs at Bodhgaya during the Dalai Lama’s visit to Bihar in January 2018, but fortunately it could be detected”, DGP A K Shukla said after Sheikh’s arrest.
However, NIA officials denied to talk before media at AD Nagar Police Station today.
National Investigation Agency is a central agency established by the Indian Government to combat terror in India. It acts as the Central Counter Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency. The agency is empowered to deal with terror related crimes across states without special permission from the states.
