AGARTALA, Jan 20 (TIWN): Young blood forced to end life out of insults, harassment by Tripura police on December, 2018 has shaken High Court of Tripura. In a hearing, Tripura High Court Justice Arindam Lodh has issued a show-cause notice to the State Govt of Tripura to ‘show cause’ of his death.

The 23 years youth Pritam Debbarma committed suicide after he was allegedly beaten, harassed in Baijolbari police station in Khowai.

Allegation is, when Pritam was in his residence at Baijol area, police rushed to his house accusing Pritam was taking drugs along with friends, when his parents were not at home. He was taken by police, without any prior notice in their hands and pushed him in lockup. For whole evening he was harassed, abused with bad-language and beaten. When injured Pritam retuned in his house (at 9 pm), he told everything to his parents and area’s people and parents gave him support, but soon his body was found hanging in his room.

Pritam committed suicide out of insult. Deceased Pritam's uncle Sudhir Debbarma has lodged an FIR against 4 police officials including Baijol outpost for torturing Pritam, but so far no action was taken against any of the police officials. During FIR, Sudhir Debbarma was threatened not to mention that police harassed or tortured Pritam but Sudhir Debbarma didn't bow his head before police threatening and filed the FIR.

Deceased Pritam Debbarma (23) was son of Nirad Debbarma, resident of Baijolbari located Sonarai Bari area.

When Nirad Debbarma along with his wife was at Agartala, police arrested Pritam who was along with his few friends. Allegation was Pritam was consuming drugs along with his friends, but after taking him, police beaten him, harassed and also tortured him.

From around 4 pm Pritam was beaten till 9 pm and then anyhow he reached home with injuries.

Accused Police officers are : 1) OC-Sukanta Debbarma, 2) SI-Subir Debbarma, 3) Head Constable Shyamal Debbarma, 4) Constable Nilkamal Debbarma.  

Family and areas members tried to support Pritam morally but he was crying nonstop and at midnight he committed suicide.
