AGARTALA, Nov 9 (TIWN): No weekly-market-shutdown from now in Tripura. After the cabinet meeting, Law Minister Ratan lal Nath has announced.

On the ground of increasing public and businessmen's demands, cabinet has approved to remove one and half days market shutdown law.

Addressing media, Law Minister Ratan lal Nath said, "Even though markets will be opened 24X7 but the workers should be given one and half day of leave. A businessman can close his shop in Agartala on Sunday or may not but he can not force employees to work 24X7".

"It has been seen in case of Agartala, many travelers come from Udaipur, Dharmanagar on Sunday but as markets remain close, thus they can not buy anything. On this ground, cabinet has approved this proposed modification", Ratan lal Nath told media.

"Proposal for the fourth amendment to the Tripura Shops & Establishment Act 1970, which was modified in 1982, 1988, 2000, we are now modifying this further by removing the 1 and half days of market closing system, which was made mandatory for the shop-keepers under Tripura Shops & Establishment Act 2018 deleting Section-5 (Section-5 rules in holiday of one-and-half days of markets)", said Ratan lal Nath.
