AGARTALA, Nov 8 (TIWN):After all when it come for celebration, rules fail to control the tortures done by the majority. As patients, old people belong to the minority, the noise pollution is a non-issue here. Diwali night was also not different with late night shouting, orchestra and sound fire crackers.
Due to sound crackers the night became torturous in Agartala but police didn't take any action against this. Moreover, there is no action taken against high sound boxes during day or after night 12 also. The most sufferers are the old people, little babies and those who like to work few hours in day time of puja.
Ahead of Puja month officials of the State Pollution Control Board get busy ensuring that the noise pollution levels do not exceed the specified levels.According to the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, as amended in 2012, the noise level at market places between 6am to 10pm should be below 65 dB.
However, a relaxation of 10 dB is also given under rule 5(4) of the same taking the upper limit to 75 dB for special occasions. Loudspeakers are not allowed after 10pm.But practically nobody bothered to obey the rules.
