AGARTALA / UDAIPUR, July 27 (TIWN): Both Police and Tripura’s opposition party CPI-M have been strict not to accept any fault of own in Udaipur political violence of July 24, which took place during CPI-M’s rally held without police permission. Tripura Ex-CM Manik Sarkar visiting Udaipur has denied police’s allegation of “unpermitted†rally saying, “Ex-Ministers as Keshab Majumder, Badal Choudhury were constantly requesting police to help in the rally. Police do not belong to any political party. It must work independently and our protest rally was a national level protestâ€. Sarkar further said, “Police must set rule of law, not Jungle Rajâ€. On the other side, Police have blamed the CPI-M leaders for leading a violence in Udaipur by holding unpermitted rally at there.

If without permission any political party holds a rally then police can't have any liability. Add SP further said, “The political leaders who conducted a rally without permission was requested not to go through the town area but they did it and solely they are responsible for the incident”. Reacting over the media reports which says, Police were walking with the CPI-M rally, Additional SP said, not a single police was with them, rather they were TSR who are the escorts of the MLAs and Ex-Ministers. Nawadwip Jamatia also said, CPI-M didn’t lodge any FIR against the attackers so that police would not take action.
Being asked by TIWN, whether they were BJP goons to attack, Additional SP further said, “The attacker may be BJP, IPFT, CPI-M, Amra Bangali it doesn't matter to Police. Both attackers and protesters may be of same group….. but the whole issue on that day was created with unpermitted rally”.
Further reacting on recent media reports which claimed about Police's negligence during the rally on Tuesday, Add SP added, “Police was never inactive in that incident, rather police were active and that’s why the bloodshed was less. Moreover 1 police constable was heavily injured in that clash".
The cases registered against them are : 188/147/ 149/ IPC.
