AGARTALA, April 1 (TIWN): The situation emerged at South Joynagar, under AD Nagar PS was recovered with police's immediate action before it could damage further. West Dist SP Abhijit Saparshi said, "There was some verbal altercation over alleged cow killing between neighbours. A group of religious organization from outside came and demonstrated demanding action. Swiftly police intervened and dispersed the group. The area is totally peaceful now and police appealed to people for not believing rumours. Mischief mongers will be dealt with in strict manner". "Nobody has right to take law in hands. However, the situation is totally under control now and we have asked the public not to initiate anymore tension. Also there shouldn't be any promotion of any religion's name", SP told TIWN over phone. SP also said, there was only verbal argument and no clash emerged among the locals and protesters. Today, following an allegation of 2 cattle butchery, VHP members rushed to the spot and warned to stop cow killing in that zone.
This incident also immediately received political reactions. CPI-M MLA Badal Choudhury has termed the incident as example of 'intolerance'.
