UDAIPUR (Matabari), March 16 (TIWN): Like every year on first week of "Chaitra" month Tripura's tribal community under 'Jamatia' Hoda (Hindu) have offered prayers to Tripura Sundari Goddess, which is also known as a part of custom to invite Garia and Ker (Kali) Goddess. Garia Puja will be performed at the new year in April.

MLA Rampada Jamatia, Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, ADC Executive member Joy Bahadur Jamatia, MLA Biplab Ghosh also participated in that occasion.

Two Ocras (priests with highest power in jamatia community) have led the auspicious occasion.

Today all puja rituals are performed by Jamatia community which is a long tradition since centuries from erstwhile era of Tripura kings . Thousands of  Jamatia devotees thronged from all over Tripura at Matabari, many volunteers and Baba Garia Mission, local authorities co-ordinated traffic and other facilities.

This custom has been continuing from the King’s era. Jamatias are basically “Ksatriyas” or those who were in the erstwhile King’s army have developed a unique culture since centuries. Jamatias perform pujas at Matabari Temple, but as well as the “Mahadeb Bari (Central Road, Udaipur); Lord Shiva is another form of Baba Garia.
