AGARTALA, March 11 (TIWN): Supreme Court terminated Tripura's 10323 teachers have sat in a meeting at Rabindra Bhawan with a new banner, comprising all the divided 10323 teachers groups regardless left, saffron supporters. The huge room of Rabindra Bhawan also seemed small, for the gathering of the teachers under the banner of "All Tripura 10323 Victimized Teachers' Association". In the meeting the teachers aimed to review their actual-situation and future possibilities of getting their jobs back. The teachers are working now in ad hoc basis for 6 months, under the order of Supreme Court, whereas the teachers as regular employees had lost their jobs in December 31st, 2017. After that BJP had taken the responsibilities of the teachers career, saying after BJP comes in power, the Govt will try its best to save the teachers livelihood.

However, BJP never promised that their govt will return their teachers jobs back with 100% guarantee as after High Court, the Supreme Court had also cancelled their jobs due to massive irregularities in the recruitment procedure.

2014 : 10,323 teachers' jobs were cancelled by Tripura High Court in 2014 on May 7 after spotting irregularities in the recruitment process following a section of deprived qualified youths for the posts.A division bench of the high court, comprising Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Swapan Chandra Das, had passed then order May 7, 2014 terminating the jobs of 10,323 school teachers after Dec 31, citing irregularities in recruitment and SC has upheld High Court's 2014 verdict.

However, High Court asked Tripura Govt to save 10323 teachers jobs, by appointing the deprived youths who filed cases against the irregularities in recruitment of 10323 teachers by the then Tripura Govt, but Tripura Govt didn't appoint the deprived 59 youths and challenged the High Court verdict in the Supreme Court.

2016-17 On March 29, 2017, the Supreme Court also held High Court's order and terminated the teachers. Supreme Court in a humanaitarian gesture to 10323 teachers mentioned that the teachers will continue their jobs till 2017, 31st Dec.

Later with the request of Tripura Govt, the Supreme Court added 6 months of ad hoc basis jobs for the teachers which will be end on June 11, 2018. Supreme Court issued 6th month's contract jobs for the teachers as Tripura Govt told Supreme Court, if teachers are terminated schools will be suffering from teachers crisis in the mid-session.

CPI-M Govt also created 12000 non-teaching posts for the teachers recruitment, which was also stayed by the Supreme Court.  In this condition BJP Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Tripura's present Minister Sudip Roy Barman sent the teachers to Delhi and submitted their plea for 5 years relaxation. At the same time, they also promised that by any means after BJP comes in power, their futures will be shaped.

But question since then was raising it is possible to go beyond SC's order or whether only for Tripura, the constitution can be modified via amendments as in similar cases, many state's teachers had lost jobs in last few years.

However, according to the last information, the matter was under in the Central Law Dept and discussions are going on regarding the relaxation of the terminated Tripura teachers. Now, the state is eyeing for 10323 teachers pending issue and how to overcome the Supreme Court's verdict.

Tripura's last Education and Law Minister Tapan Chakraborty recently told TIWN, "10323 will be a very complicated matter for the BJP to solve. There are two ways however : one is to modify the constitution through an amendment bill in the parliament and another is to set up a relaxation with the permission of SC. Passing the bill will not be easy as along with Tripura, there are many states' teachers who lost their jobs in such manners at Supreme Court. Valediction act is also another means but for that also you need to have the permission from the central govt".

Noteworthy, 10323 Teachers illegal recruitment and subsequent termination caused CPI-M’s political turmoil beyond repair. When SC had given its last verdict it said on ad-hoc basis the teachers can continue their jobs for 6 months, but in the verdict it was also said that 'No further appeal will be accepted anymore in this issue'.
