Manik expresses anger against Dr Rathin Datta, faces embarrassment in Assembly

AGARTALA, August 29 (TIWN):Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Friday expressed his anger against reknowned Surgeon of Tripura Padmasree Dr Rathin Datta over his interview on a local TV channel aired recently.In question hour, reacting over opposition MLA Biswa Bandhu Sen over Dr Datta’s interview, where he categorically stated that in Dhaka last year in a civil reception program of Bangladesh government Sarkar asked his political allegiance.“I never enquired about his political allegiance (when Dr Datta asked CM why Tripura didn't confer any award for lifetime service) - rather he expressed his deep discontent against Govt of India saying that his service during 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War not recognised,” Sarkar stated in the house.When Sen reminded him that Govt of India conferred him Padmasree why he should be saying this and from the statement of Dr Datta, it appears that he is very much happy with Govt of India but his own state Tripura did not recognise him properly, CM Sarkar got embarrassed.

“He might be expecting Padmabhusan or Bharat Ratna from Govt of India,” Sarkar commented. Sarkar unwarrantedly blamed the media for propagating such issues, which is uncomfortable for Manik Sarkar and his party.

It is to be mentioned that Dr. Rathin Datta is the most famous  Doctor who dedicated his life for the service of people in Tripura. During 1971 Bangladesh War,  Dr. Datta & team served day and night doing surgical operations saving soldiers, victims of  Pakistan Amry's brutal tortures - Govt of India conferred  Padmasree and Bangladesh Govt awarded him " Friends of Liberation of War"  - however where he served his whole life - in Tripura - he got and award or recognition.
