UDAIPUR,August 28 (TIWN): Unscientific and unrealistic construction of Cemented embankments of Kalyan Sagar is the main cause of loss of marine life like fishes and turtles in recent days, says Head of the Department of Fishery College Dr Ratan Kumar Saha. Prof Ratan Kumar Saha is the HOD of Fish Health & Environment . He and three other experts of Fishery college rushed to MataBari around 6.15am on Tuesday and examined the water of the Kalayan Sagar and took samples of water and dead fish to test in the laboratory. Later on speaking to media,Prof Ratan Kumar Saha said, " The water of the Kalyan Sagar has become unfit for any marine life. Infact the biodiversity of the lake has been totally damaged. The unscientific construction of cemented embankments is the prime reason for this."

" At the same time the level of dissolved oxygen has been reduced considerably and infact nil at present. It is now absolutely necessary to bulldoze the cemented embarkments. To some extent the temple authorities are responsible for the negligence of water maintainance," said the experts. They said that is has been instruction to pour limestones three times every year but the Fishery Department only pours once a year and that too ahead of Diwali. Unfortunaletey more than 160 fishes died in the last four days but the Chairman of MataBari Temple Development Committee Madahb Saha is hardly seen visiting MataBari . Intact a top level District official today told TIWN that administration has decided to destroy the cemented embarkments of Kalyan Sagar but due to one sided attitude of Madahab Saha decision of implementation is still pending.

The experts suggested some steps for the time being. These are:-

1) Pouring of Potassium in the Kalyan Sagar , stop throwing of biscuits and puffed rice

2) Spinning of water to generate oxygen

3) Construction of 5 water fountains in Kalyan Sagar to carry on spinning of water on regular basis

4) Removal of the total water of the lake as it is polluted

5) Destruction of cemented embarkments without further delay

6) Remove all plastics materials and stop the flow of it in future

SDM Udaipur Ajit Debnath told TIWN over phone, " Fire Service has been instructed to start spinning of water at least twice a day. For this purpose Fire Service has asked to provide the huge quantity of oil needed for the said purpose. Accordingly funds have been arranged for buying oil. Fire Service team started spinning at around 2.30pm today and it will continue tomorrow in the morning and in the evening. " SDM also said that throwing of puffed rice and biscuits have been banned from Thursday. However, SDM Udaipur told that considering the interests of the vendors selling of ouffed rice and biscuits, administration has decided to bring fish food from Agartala and these vendors will be provided them to sell to the visitors.

Meanwhile, wine bottles coming from Gunabati Yatri Nibas and the Cafeteria too are threatening the water . It is learnt that the caretakers of Gunabati Yatri Nibas(on the South Bank) and Cafeteria( on the North Bank) throw a large number of wine bottles in the water that are alleged to be used by the visitors coming there. Reacting to this DCM Sabyasachi Sinha told TIWN over phone on Thursday night, " Local people raised the issue on Wednesday and accordingly I have submitted my observatory reports to the DM Gomati . Moreover, local people and businessmen have been advised to take care so that water is not polluted by outsiders." A TIWN sources in DM Gomati office said that under tremendous pressure from all corners a high level meeting will be held on Sunday in Matabari . DM Gomati, SDM Udaipur, Chairman of MataBari temple committee MLA will remain present on this meeting. However, if the suggestions of the experts are taken into account, cemented embarkments of Kalyan Sagar must be destroyed immediately. And MataBari Development committee too must change its arrogant and negative attitude regarding the cemented embarkments.
