AGARTALA, August 25 (TIWN): Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) executive member for education Radhacharan Debbarma on Monday criticized the demand of Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) for separate statehood comprising of district council areas under name and style of Twipraland. The move was an effort to confuse and deviate tribal youths from the paths of peaceful coexistence, Debbarma said.

Interacting with the media at a press conference in ADC council Bhawan at the district council headquarters in Khumulwng today, Radhacharan said that IPFT leaders tried to foment communal tension at a rally recently held in Agartala demanding separate statehood for indigenous communities of Tripura including areas under the jurisdiction of district council areas.

“We appeal the tribal youths to stay aware about such instigations. The ADC authorities have demanded more power to the district council and we will be forwarding the same demand very soon”, Debbarma said. Radhacharan Debbarma today said that Constitutional amendment was highly necessary to address issues of development of the Tripura ADC.

“The very first Left Front government sent a proposal to the central government form an autonomous district council”, he said. ADC executive member Radhacharan Debbarma called for immediate deployment of article 73 and article 74 of the Constitution of India. “Tripura is having communal harmony and peaceful coexistence among tribal and non-tribal communities.

The IPFT is trying to disrupt the harmony by flaunting disturbing demands like Twipraland based on ideology of communal divide”, the ADC chief said.
