UDAIPUR, August 26 (TIWN):Power Minister Manik Dey inaugurated the Killa Electrical Sub-Division and Computerized Energy Billing System on Monday. Minister for Forest Department Naresh Jamatia was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Others who remained present on this occasion were Principal Secretary of TSECL S K Rakesh, DM Gomati Sonal Goel , Joy Kishore Jamatia, MDC,TTAADC ect. Chairman of Killa BAC Amrita Sadhan Jamatia presided over the programme. CMD ,TSECL Shyamal Kr Roy gave away the Welcome Address. Last year TSECL suffered a huge loss of Rs 120 crore and this mainly due to inadequate internal generation in the state. TSECL had to buy additional powers from outside to meet the shortage and that resulted in huge loss.
Speaking on this occasion Power Minister said," In Tripura almost 90% villages have been covered under electricity and the target is to achieve 100% with in the earliest. But hooking system is a major hindrance for the over all development of power situation. It is the responsibility of all to see that power steal is stopped and all consumers should pay their electricity bills regularly." Manik Dey said that in the year 1978 the number of electricity consumers was 14700 but not the consumers are 6 and half lakhs. He said that conservation of electricity has become the absolute need of the hour. The minister also said that OTPC Unit-II is likely to start generation from October this year. Moreover, Manrachak too is ready for power generation . If ONGC starts gas supply Manarchak will start generation. And Manik Dey said," If these two units start to generate, there will be no loadshedding. But before that consumers are to reduce power stealing to zero."
