In a bombshell revelation shaking the foundations of India's democratic process, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of India (ECI) of orchestrating widespread vote theft in the BJP-ruled state of Haryana. Gandhi claims nearly 2.5 million suspicious entries plague the electoral rolls, including duplicate registrations, bulk voters at single addresses, and even a Brazilian model's photo used for fake identities. These allegations of electoral fraud come amid growing concerns over the integrity of Haryana elections, with Gandhi demanding a thorough probe to safeguard India's democracy.
Duplicate Voters and Shocking Irregularities in Haryana Electoral Rolls
At the heart of Gandhi's exposé are glaring instances of duplicate voters that undermine the credibility of the voting system. One egregious example highlighted by the opposition leader involves a woman listed 223 times in the voters' list—a clear red flag for potential manipulation and fraud in Indian elections.
Gandhi didn't stop there, pointing to a "centralized operation" designed to rig outcomes. "We have crystal clear proof that 25 lakh voters (in Haryana) are fake, that they either don't exist or they are duplicates or are designed in a way for anybody to vote...one in eight voters in Haryana are fake, that's 12.5%,” he stated during his public address.
Further fueling suspicions of vote theft in Haryana, Gandhi cited the bizarre case of a Brazilian model whose stock photograph was allegedly used for 22 fake voter entries across 10 different polling booths. "A Brazilian model voted 22 times in the Haryana Elections...She votes 22 times in Haryana, in 10 different booths in Haryana. She has multiple names...That means this is a centralised operation...The lady is a Brazilian model. That's a stock photograph,” Gandhi explained, emphasizing the coordinated nature of the alleged scam.
Bulk Voters at Vacant Addresses: A Pattern of Electoral Malpractice
Investigations into Haryana's voter lists have uncovered alarming patterns of bulk registrations at single addresses, raising questions about BJP's role in election rigging. In one striking instance, a supposedly vacant house in Haryana was found to have 501 registered voters. Such discrepancies suggest systematic voter roll manipulation to sway results in favor of the ruling party.
Gandhi's team has identified thousands of similar cases, including suspect Form-6 registrations and invalid entries with fake addresses. These revelations point to a broader strategy of electoral fraud, potentially allowing unauthorized voting and compromising the fairness of Indian polls.
Inter-State Voters and Dual Registrations Fueling Fraud Allegations
Adding another layer to the controversy, allegations of inter-state voters have emerged, with local BJP functionaries reportedly holding dual registrations in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. This could enable illegal multiple voting across constituencies, further eroding trust in the democratic process.
Gandhi has directly challenged the ECI's handling of these issues, questioning the use of "house number 0" assignments, which he alleges are employed to hide unverifiable or duplicate entries. "I want the young people, GenZ of India, to understand this clearly because this is about your future...I am questioning the EC, democratic process in India, so I am doing it with 100% proof," he asserted.
Election Commission's Response Amid Accusations of Collusion with BJP
The Election Commission of India has come under fire for allegedly colluding with the BJP to secure victories through manipulated voter rolls. Gandhi accused the ECI of turning a blind eye to these irregularities, claiming they were part of a plan to convert Congress's potential landslide win into a loss. "We are pretty sure that a plan was put in motion to convert the Congress' landslide victory into a loss,” he added.
In response, the ECI has rejected the allegations of vote manipulation, urging Gandhi to submit an affidavit with supporting evidence. However, critics argue that the Commission must proactively verify electoral rolls, investigate claims of malpractice, and restore transparency to prevent future fraud in Indian elections.
Broader Implications for India's Democracy and Haryana Polls
If proven, these allegations of 2.5 million suspicious voters could have far-reaching consequences, questioning the legitimacy of recent Haryana elections and the overall fairness of India's electoral system. With one in eight voters potentially fake, the scandal highlights systemic vulnerabilities that could be exploited in other states, threatening the principles of free and fair polls.
As political tensions escalate, calls for independent audits and reforms grow louder. Rahul Gandhi's exposé serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilant oversight to protect India's democratic future from vote theft and manipulation.
