AGARTALA, Aug 16 (TIWN): A malfunction in the coupler of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Double Decker Express caused two coaches to detach from the moving train near Surat on Thursday morning, sparking panic among passengers. The incident occurred at 8:50 am near Gothangam Yard, close to Surat Station, in the Vadodara Division.
Fortunately, the train was traveling at a slow speed, and no injuries were reported. Passengers safely disembarked when the train came to a halt. Western Railway officials promptly responded to the incident, and a team rushed to the site.
The rear and front portions of the train were moved to the platform for repairs, causing a brief disruption in train traffic between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Restoration work was completed by 11:22 am, and traffic on the UP line resumed. During the disruption, other trains continued to operate via the loop line, minimizing the impact on train movement on the route.
