THANE, Jan 30 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the extortion case involving former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh and others. The closure report was presented in the court of the chief judicial magistrate at Thane.
In the closure report, the CBI detailed its extensive probe conducted under various sections of the Indian Penal Code at one place, it stated that "The allegations made against Param Bir Singh were found to lack corroborative evidence, relying solely on the oral statement of the complainant."
According to the FIR registered, the crime occurred between November 2016 to May 2018 wherein Sanjay Punamiya, Sunil Jain, Manoj Ghotkar, Manere, and Singh in connivance with each other initially ‘extorted’ Rs 2 crore from him.
The FIR stated that Punmiya and Agrawal were business partners and after Shamsunder Agrawal was arrested in a fake ULC scam and to bail out Shamsunder, the police demanded ransom. The case was then transferred to CBI, which filed a closure report, detailing several lapses.
