Lucknow, July 3 : Bahujan Samaj Party President Mayawati has said that while her party was not against the implementation of the uniform civil code (UCC) but she did not support the way BJP was trying to implement the same in the country.
“It is not right to politicize this issue and forcefully implement UCC in the country," the BSP chief added as quoted by the news agency ANI.
She agreed that the implementation of UCC will strengthen the country and unite Indians. “It will also develop a sense of brotherhood among people."
However, Mayawati asserted that the forceful implementation of UCC will only create problems. She said the central government should focus on issues like inflation, unemployment, education, and healthcare.
The central government is being heavily criticized by opposition parties over the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code across the country. This came after PM Modi on June 27 expressed his support for the UCC and emphasized the importance of having a single set of laws for the entire country.
