Chennai, June 30 (TIWN) The Greater Chennai Corporation has appointed a transperson for flying drones used for spraying larvicide to control the mosquito menace in the corporation.
A resolution to this effect was approved by the corporation on Tuesday during its council meeting. E Prem (19), a transperson from Vellore, will be given the contract-based position.
Officials from the corporation informed that although the corporation will be recruiting two people, including a transgender, at the moment, seven drone operators are needed to spray the mosquito larvicide. However, when it comes time to recruit the remaining five, transgender people will be given preference, news agency IANS reported.
According to corporate officials, Prem will begin working in July and get a monthly pay of Rs 25,000.
