New Delhi, March 15 (TIWN) Amid a call for leadership change in the party, Congress General Secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has called a meeting of party leaders on Tuesday to find out the reasons for the defeat.
The results are certain to impact the internal Congress equations and its prospects in the dynamic opposition politics. The rout also leaves Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra with just a ‘family inheritance right’ to seek leadership roles in Congress.
Congress camps admit that BJP’s performance in four states would brighten its 2024 prospects, while AAP’s Punjab sweep would inspire it to expand to Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, challenging Congress monopoly against BJP in those states. Even though the Trinamool Congress failed to win in Goa, Mamata Banerjee too is likely to carry on with her raids on Congress turfs and leaders. Following the results, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, TRS’ Keshav Rao and triumphant AAP leaders stressed on need for opposition parties to be active in anti-BJP unity and mobilising efforts, indicating a diminishing role for Congress.
