Imphal, Aug 24 (TIWN) A local court in Manipur has remanded three youths to police custody till Friday for attempting to smuggle Covid-19 vaccines and other medicines to neighbouring Myanmar, police said on Tuesday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Feroz Khan (30), son of Md Heffajuddin and Imran Khan (22) son of (L) Abdullah, both from Moreh ward no 5 Muslim Nagar Mayai Leikai in Tengnoupal district. According to police, the combined team arrested the duo from near Heijingang Super Market along NH-2 and seized one Maruti Van (AS 01DA-3148) Silver in colour, two cartoon boxes suspected to be COVID-19 medicines which contained 48 numbers of packets written as DESREM Rx Remdesivir for injection 100 mg/vial, Lyophilized powder for injection for IV Infusion Discard Unused Portion single dose vial sterile, 100 bottles written as SII ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 Corona Virus Vaccine (Recombinant) and 10 doses of COVISHIELD 5 ml .
On questioning, they disclosed that the items were handed over to them at Hatta by one Subhamkumar Anand (23), son of Rabindra Prasad Gupta of Kathiar Pratap Ganj, Bihar but presently staying at BT Road Roopmahal Tank, Imphal. Anand was also called up and arrested on the spot at 3:40 pm. A case has been registered at Singjamei Police Station in this regard for further investigation, it added.
