Kolkata, April 9 (TIWN) With twelve fresh Covid 19 infections reported, and three other patients recovering in West Bengal, the number of active cases in the state now stands at 80, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday.
"On Wednesday, I had given the number of active cases as 71. After that, 12 new cases have been reported, while three others have recovered. So, the number of active cases now is 80," Banerjee told media at the state secretariat Nabanna. The death count still stood at five, while the total number of people tested was 1,886. Banerjee said among those afflicted with the viral infection was the superintendent and a health worker of Howrah district hospital. The Chief Minister said two more patients admitted in I.D. Hospital, Beliaghata, were likely to be released in the next two days. At present, 4,717 people were housed in government quarantine centres, while 5,162 were discharged after completing their isolation period. Fifty-five thousand people are home-quarantine under the direct supervision of the health department. Banerjee said the state government was feeding two lakh stranded migrant workers from 16 states and labourers since April 1 in 711 camps. "The state government is directly taking care of most of these people. Some NGOs are also helping us. We will continue to provide them food as long as they need," she added.
