AGARTALA, Nov 19 (TIWN): Reacting over the ongoing everyday attacks on democracy, former MP Jiendra Choudhury on Tuesday announced that CPI-M led by its indigenous wing Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) will hold a massive protest with 18 demands on December 14. Out of those demands, 17 are very needed and crucial demands of the common men whereas the main purpose of the rally will be raising slogans to for the restoration of the democracy. “ADC’s power increasement is a major demand which was always a demand of the Gana Mukti Parisahd but due to the Central Govt’s muteness over the issue, it is not becoming possible practically. We demand in the upcoming Parliamentary session, this issue should be raisedâ€.
“Our demand will also to be bringing the Kokborok language under the 6th schedule. Another demand is to scrap the Citizenship Amendment Bill (Amendment) as via newspapers it is seen that CAB may be introduced in the next Parliamentary session and thus those who came from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan till 2014, 31st December and must be non-Muslims will be given Indian Citizenship, which is totally against Indian constitution which speaks about secularism and unity. Not only this, CAB will also affect the Northeast’s democracy and peace may be halted due to that”, said Jitendra Choudhury.
“Also our demand will be for works, MGNREGA etc…………”, he added.
As the BJP led administration is not cooperating to give permission for this upcoming rally, Jitendra Choudhury said that due to this attitude, CPI-M is propagating about the convention plan of December 14.
“Today all mediums of Democracy are attacked. The Govt is trying to pressure upon the independent functions of administration, judicial system and media”, he said.
