NEW DELHI/MUMBAI, Nov 12 (TIWN): The Union Cabinet on Tuesday recommended President's rule in Maharashtra even as top leaders from the NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena were holding a flurry of consultations in a bid to tot up the numbers and resolve the impasse over government formation in the state.
The Shiv Sena today approached the Supreme Court seeking urgent hearing against Governor BS Koshyari’s decision to not extend the deadline given to the Uddhav Thackeray-led party to prove they have the numbers to form the government. The move comes amid reports that the Cabinet has recommended President’s Rule as the stalemate over government formation persists.
Koshyari had given time to the NCP till 8.30pm today to prove that it has the numbers after the Shiv Sena on Monday failed to get letters of support from the political rivals before the deadline set by the Governor who rejected its plea for three more days to do so.
