New Delhi, July 22 (TIWN) Congress members in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha on Monday protested outside Parliament over the detention of party leader Priyanka Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh last week.
Venugopal said the Congress workers will stage demonstrations across the country to protest Priyanka Gandhi's detention in Uttar Pradesh. She was stopped enroute from Varanasi to Sonbhadra. "The Yogi government is trying to hide its failures. This [detention of Priyanka Gandhi] betrays the arrogance of the government. Instead of showing compassion for the bereaved families, the Yogi government is targeting the Opposition leaders," said Venugopal. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala too hit out at the Yogi Adityanath government in a tweet saying, "By arresting Priyanka Gandhi, keeping her in Chunar, will the UP government be able to cover up the killing of 10 people of a tribal family in Sonbhadra?" Ten people were killed and more than 25 others injured in a clash over land dispute in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place on Wednesday.
