New Delhi, Jan 28 (TIWN): It was homecoming for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday morning, as he reached Varanasi, the constituency that had re-elected him for a second consecutive term as Member of Parliament.
As Modi landed at the Police Lines helipad and made his way via road towards Kashi Vishwanath temple, people lined the roads on both sides to catch a glimpse of their MP. Though, unlike the time he visited the city to file his nomination papers last month, PM Modi chose not to embark on a roadshow this time.
The entire stretch was nonetheless decorated with saffron balloons, banners and cut-outs of the Prime Minister. Dance and music welcomed him on his maiden visit to Varanasi that elected him with a higher margin this time. In the results declared on May 23, Narendra Modi polled 6,74,664 votes while his closest opponent, Samajwadi Party's Shalini Yadav got 1,95,159 votes.
