New Delhi, Jan 7 (TIWN / IANS) The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Monday walked out of the alliance with the ruling BJP over the latter's decision to go ahead with the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.
AGP President Atul Bora said this after an AGP delegation led by him met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.
"We have made our best effort to convince the BJP leadership about the negative impact of the Bill and the stand of the people of Assam. However, the BJP has decided to go ahead with the Bill leaving us with no option but to quit the alliance," Bora told the media here.
