Ahead of this year's show, Wyevale Garden Centre has predicted the top five 'Chelsea favourites' set to soar in popularity amongst British gardeners this month. Looking closely at Chelsea's 2019 theme of reconnecting with nature and the beauty of the natural world, Wyevale think these plants will offer inspiration.

 

"Chelsea Flower Show has long been a highlight on the calendar for the gardening community, but its influence now extends to millions via social media, where we know over a fifth of Brits get their gardening inspiration," Julian Palphramand, Plant Buyer at Wyevale Garden Centres explains.

 

"Last year we witnessed a huge demand from customers wanting to ‘get the Chelsea look’ and have curated a section in centres that brings together show-stoppers suited to all garden styles and sizes," Julie continues.

1. Agapanthus

 

Joe Perkins, creator of this year's Facebook garden, Behind The Screen, told Country Living earlier this month that the beautiful purple plant, Agapanthus, will appear in his garden display.

 

"Scotts Pine are the main trees at the show, but there will also be the Mastic Gum Tree, Agapanthus, Sea Kale Crambe Maritima and the Cushion Bush from Australia," Joe explained. This plant grows best in well-drained soil and can reach the height of 45cm x 45cm after a couple of years.

 

 

2. Alstroemeria (Peruvian lily)

 

These beautifully decorative and exotic flowers bloom from May onwards and are a stunning addition to any garden. Set to be seen at Chelsea this year, the Alstroemeria is sure to be a firm favourite with gardeners. 

 

3. Ficinia 'ice crystal'

 

Texture is a key focus at the flower show this year, with many gardens featuring wood, metal and other interesting finishes. The Ficinia 'ice crystal' is an eye-catching evergreen plant that is also set to be a favourite this year.
