AGARTALA, Oct 25 ( TIWN ) : A Tripura Government doctor attached to AGMC and GB Hospital has been suspended from his job due to an “objectionable” statement in social media on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Doctor Kaushik Chakraborty is an assistant professor of Agartala Government Medical College in the pharmacology department.
A few days back, he made some statements against the Citizenship Bill and also made statement against Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. Deb is also in charge of the Health and Family welfare department.

Dr. Chakraborty was summoned a show cause notice by Health and Welfare department on August 2. The charges lobbed at him were :

1. That he had "obliquely criticised the honourable chief Minister of Tripura by posting derogatory remarks on social media which is unbecoming of a public servant. "

2. That he also "posted objectionable remarks the social media against the Citizenship Amendment bill which will definitely create a rift against among the communities on the state. "

3. That, " being a Govt servant ( he) has given a statement in social media against the condtitutional head of the state administration is unbecoming on the part of a government employee. "

Replying to the notice on September 11 last, Dr. Chakraborty explained the referred posts were made on his personal capacity and not as a public servant and added that being a citizen of India, he had the freedom to express his views on any issue. On Monday evening, he was suspended from his job. He was also ordered not to leave Agartala without any permission.

The statement he made on his social media account was, " I’m a proud Indian citizen from Tripura and oppose Citizenship amendment bill as it would alter vulnerable demography in NE India & create unwanted tension between many communities. On this issue I am with Pradyot Manikya to protect the interest of legal citizens over illegal migrants”.

It is to mention that some people including sone College students were also got arrested for making Anti - BJP post on social media as Govt claimed them Anti national. But Indian constitution have the ' Freedom of Speech' as one of the citizen's fundamental rights. It seems like BJP Govt do not even care about the constitutional rights even, if someone makes any statement against them, they will be called as anti-nationalist and will be puted in jail or suspended from their jobs.
