New Delhi, Oct 4 (TIWN) A Delhi court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram till October 17. The CBI had arrested the senior Congress leader on August 21 in connection with the INX Media case.
During hearing before the special CBI judge AK Kuhar, the CBI informed the bench that a bail plea has also been moved in the Supreme Court by Chidambaram's counsel. Meanwhile, Chidambaram's counsel Kapil Sibal has moved a separate application demanding the former minister and veteran Congress leader be allowed to have home-cooked food owing to his ailing health. A report of the medical officer from Tihar has also been filed before court to seek permit to have food from home. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, told the court that the agency has no objection to home-cooked food being provided to Chidambaram, and the SG gave his consent for the provision. Interestingly, the Tihar Jail manual does not allow prisoners to get home food, and the jail authorities in their reply before the court pointed out that there is no provision for such a concession.
