Panaji, Aug 3 (TIWN) Thousands of taxis went off the roads in Goa on Friday in protest against the BJP-led coalition government's decision to allow an app-based cab aggregator to continue its services.
Currently, the only way to get around Goa now is to book a cab via GoaMiles, an app that was introduced last year by Frotamiles, a local Goan company, and backed by Goa Tourism Development Corporation. The app was introduced after a long and sustained demand by travellers that local taxis in Goa are exorbitant. As per the unions, the app offers competitive pricing, which is affecting their business. That is also the reason why other fleet-based taxi apps such as Uber and Ola have not been able to enter Goa.
