New Delhi, Dec 10 (TIWN / IANS) Anglo-Dutch oil major Shell's Indian arm on Sunday announced the launching of fourth generation ‘flat-pack all-terrain truck ‘The Ox for carrying goods, especially for people in remote areas.

The vehicle, unveiled at Shell Eco-marathon in Chennai on Saturday, is an energy-efficient affordable solution for last-mile connectivity in India, a company statement said.

The Ox truck, which can be assembled in less than 12 hours, is the result of a global partnership between Shell, Gordon Murray Design and the Global Vehicle Trust, it said.

The Ox truck "can carry a payload of 1,900 kg including everyday necessities, medical supplies, building and agriculture materials", it said.

"Powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine, the construction of the body is lightweight and an equal weight distribution which gives it credentials to tackle rough surface despite it having a front wheel drive configuration," the statement added.

Commenting on the development, Shell India Chairman Nitin Prasad said in a statement: "Limited mobility restricts access to basic amenities in remote areas.
