"No woman has to be a victim of physical abuse. Women have to feel like they are not alone."
— Salma Hayek

The Congress is all long claiming that Tripura tops the list in the country whenever there is any crime or atrocity against woman is concerned. The recent incident of brutal torture upon a woman at Tata Kalibari gives total credence to the claim of the Congress.  A middle aged woman namely Soma Mazumdar was tied up against a pole and was beaten savagely in presence of Panchayat chief and local CPI-M leaders and that too in broad daylight! The incident significantly and poignantly suggests where Tripura is heading under the Chief Minister ship of Shri Manik Sarkar!

The matter would have died a natural death had not the incident was publicized and telecast through newspapers and electronic channels.  The incident has gone viral, video footage of this ghastly incident is available in the every social website and it has hogged national lime light too. The Nation hides its face in shame! The outcry of the people over this sordid incident could not be muted by this demonic Government which is always shedding crocodile tears for the downtrodden and the woman folk in general. The local newspapers have started writing serials and are keenly following each development.

But the police which is rumored to never act without the nod from the political masters was never more than a mute spectator at the initial stage. But the hatred of people was so incessant and outrageous that police was forced to register case. But the sections of IPC they preferred to register in this instant case were learnt to be sections 325, 341, 342, 427 and 434 of IPC instead of section 354 of IPC and the accused had no difficulty in getting bail.  According to the opposition, the police  had not only has weakened the Soma's case deliberately but registered a false counter case lodged by the accused CPI-M cadres against her that she had been indulging  in prostitution in the area, Police has been made a nincompoop in the golden era of Manik Sarkar and does what they are asked to, if the whispers in the society are to be believed.

And ultimately, His Excellency the Governor of Tripura took cognizance of this ghastly incident and asked Police in no uncertain terms to book the culprits following the rules of the land! Vis-à-vis there is still no known reaction from the custodian of the Home Department! The silence of the Home Ministry is too deafening!!!

This incident is not unique one in this present regime- almost every day in one corner or other Soma Mazumdars are either beaten, raped and thereafter strangled to death.  Rape and molestation of woman is almost a regular phenomenon in Tripura. The incidents of rape are so frequent that even the Newspapers have started not giving it a first column- the defalcation and misappropriation of Government fund is now usually getting more importance.

Actually, no woman is safe anywhere in this regime- be in the educational Institution, village, town or even Hospital. The organized henchmen of the CPI (M) functionaries are always reported to disrobe woman in broad daylight and the functionaries who are the custodian of our law and order are reported to remain as stoic spectator.  The people of Tripura could hardly forget the mass rape of 6(six) women belonging to Minority community at Udaipur in 1999. Similarly, people have not forgotten the mass rape of 6(six) tribal Chakma women at Baishyramkarabari para at Dhalai District in the year 2004. People have also not forgotten mass raping of 3(Three) ST woman at Sachindra Roaza Para at Dhalai district in 2004. In 2006 Parung mala of Tripura, an innocent Tribal woman was gang raped at Bishnupur under Sabroom Subdivision. The most horrible case may be the raping of 10(ten) ST girls continuing for the whole night when they were returning from Baishaki Mela on May 12, 2007 at village Dalak under Amarpur subdivision. In 2010 Nilima Debbarma, an election candidate of opposition party during TTAADC election was gang raped and subsequently murdered. Also in 2010 one Gayeswari Debbarma, a tribal woman at Lefunga was raped serially and her life snatched away subsequently. In September, 2011 one Mangeswari Debbarma, one hapless tribal widow was also victim to gang rape at Khumlung, TTAADC headquarters! But the shameless the custodians of the law and order are silent and mute spectator! The abuse of woman has become too nauseating to tolerate! A gut wrenching odor is everywhere!!

But what is more dangerous that the conviction rate is appallingly poor in Tripura!  It is only 18% against the national average of 42% and it is simply because that the perpetrators of the crimes are hand in globe with the ruling Left Front Government. According to National Crime Record Bureau, at least five cases of atrocities on women are recorded in Tripura average a day. What a state we are living in.

Actually, rot has set in the Home Department itself headed by no other than Shri Manik Sarkar himself! The inaction has permeated every of its organ.  As goes in the air, police has become accustomed to take order from their political bosses and not from their superiors! The situation is learnt to be worse in the villages. The police dances to the tune of the pradhans who are mainly CPI (M) men and the dictum of the CPI (M) Pradhan have presumably replaced code of ethics of police. Never in the history of Tripura has such deterioration of the law and order taken place. People have almost lost complete faith in law and order mechanism of the state and often indulges in taking the law in their own hands!

It is not that the police force of Tripura is incompetent. In fact, it is one of the best forces in the country. But this great institution is being systematically vandalized to suit the whims and interest of the ruling party. The police is never allowed the freedom they ought to enjoy or otherwise how can you explain that Bimal Chakraborty, the Kingpin of Bishalgar scam is still a free bird. Had the police been allowed the necessary free will, Bimal Chakraborty would have been a jail bird by these days. Similarly the perpetrators of the crime at Tata Kalibari would have enjoyed the luxury of the jail and would not have roamed free!

In this regard, excerpt from www.tripurainfoway.com is reproduced:

AGARTALA, October 15 (TIWN): TRIPURAINFOWAY is the first media to publish news a month and half back saying ," Within seven days of the submission of Internal Audit Report ( IAR) in the ongoing MGNREGA scam to the Office of the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and to Chief Secretary S K Panda, Cabinet was reshuffled and Finance Ministry was snatched away from Badal Chowdhury by the so called 'Mr White' Chief Minister Manik Sarkar." And after only a week of the publication of this report it is officially proved as a top level Melarmath(sic) lobby leaked the IAR to media.

The Manik era has started gradually fading away the Nazi era into oblivion! But the days are not far when Manik Baby and his comrades in arms shall have to pay the debt – especially for abusing the proud motherhood of mothers of Tripura- hundred times more than a penny but not a penny less.  History never forgives the perpetrators and collaborators of abusers of motherhood. History is replete with such incidents and it had has never spared any of them. It is cruel and consistent in dispensation of justice!
