MOSCOW / NEW DELHI, July 9 (TIWN): Despite USA’s sanctions on Russian oil, India has assured Russia of long-term fuel market stability. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Russia, he pledged to continue purchasing oil from Russia, providing a vital lifeline to the Russian economy.
In a joint address with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged Russia's support in meeting India's fuel requirements, stating, “When the world was facing the challenge of fuels, your support helped us fulfil the petrol and diesel requirements of the common man. Not just this, the world should accept that India-Russia agreement regarding fuel played a big role in bringing stability to the international market.”
A report quoting Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak released Russia’s comment that says, “Russia was also looking at different options for gas supplies to India. China and India have become key buyers of Russian oil following sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies that shut most Western markets off to Russian exports. According to analysts, India now gets more than 40% of its oil imports from Russia.”
Prime Minister Modi's visit to Russia marks the first since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. His previous visits include a trip to Vladivostok in 2019 and a meeting with President Putin in Uzbekistan in September 2022.
