JERUSALEM, Feb 26 (TIWN): In a historic shift from India's long-standing neutral stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially extended India's support to Israel during his recent two-day visit to the country. This move underscores a deepening alliance between the two nations, marked by high-level discussions and symbolic gestures that highlight shared values and mutual interests.

Modi’s Visit to World Holocaust Center

One of the most poignant moments of the visit occurred when Prime Minister Modi, accompanied by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, paid homage to the victims of the Holocaust at Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem. Modi laid a wreath at the site, honoring the memory of the six million Jews who perished during one of history's most horrific atrocities.

"I placed a wreath at Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center. I am grateful to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for accompanying me during this visit," Modi stated in a reflective post following the event.

Modi Pays Tribute to the Holocaust Victims

In an emotional tribute, Modi also toured the Hall of Names, a solemn repository that preserves the identities and stories of those who suffered and died. "I also visited the Hall of Names, a reverent space that preserves the memory of those who suffered and perished during the Holocaust," he added, emphasizing the site's role in keeping the victims' legacies alive.

Reflecting on the tragedy, Prime Minister Modi described the Holocaust as "one of the darkest chapters in human history." He further remarked, "It is an eternal reminder of the need to uphold humanity, dignity, and peace." These words resonate deeply, serving as a call to vigilance against hatred and intolerance in all forms.

This gesture holds particular significance amid ongoing global debates, including accusations of genocide leveled against Israel in relation to its military operations in Gaza. By invoking the Holocaust, Modi's visit draws parallels to historical injustices, reminding new generations of the senseless murder of Jewish communities without provocation. In contrast, Israel frames its actions in Gaza as a necessary response to eliminate Hamas, a designated terrorist organization, aligning with broader efforts to combat terrorism.

Israel’s War Against Terrorism/ War against Hamas

India's endorsement of Israel's "war against terrorism" introduces a fresh perspective to the discourse, positioning the conflict not as unprovoked aggression but as a targeted fight against extremist threats. This alignment reflects India's own experiences with cross-border terrorism and strengthens bilateral ties in security and defense.
