Tehran, Jan 27 (TIWN) An Iranian passenger plane on Monday ended up in the middle of a highway after reportedly skidding off the runway during a botched landing.
None of the 135 passengers on board Caspian Airlines flight were injured in the incident in the south-western city of Mahshahr, reports the BBC.
State TV quoted provincial aviation officials as saying the pilot "landed the aircraft too late and this caused him to miss the runway".
A journalist who was on board the aircraft said that the back wheel of the plane had broken off and that the plane skidded without its wheels.
Civil aviation spokesman Reza Jafarzadeh said that an investigation was underway.
Iran has a poor aviation safety record, said the BBC report.
Sixty-six people were killed in a plane crash in February 2019, while 78 others died when an IranAir plane broke into pieces upon landing in 2011.
The European Union has either banned or restricted two Iranian airlines from using its airspace over safety concerns.
