KAILASHAHAR, Dec 5 (TIWN): The Kailashahar Airport, under Unakoti Dist may start again functioning from 2018 after some maintenance and construction at there, a highly reliable source said.
Kailashahar Airport was an airport located at Kailashahar in the state of Tripura. The airport was shut down in mid 1990 due to lack of space. After that, there has been no attempt to relocate it.
Tripura Govt however appealed Airport Authority of India earlier to take initiative to restart the airport but till day nothing happened.
A Govt source on Tuesday said that it may take a fresh start by next year or at least work on this project may begin.
This Airport will be a huge benefit for North Tripura and Unakoti Dist. Recently, passengers of that portion are choosing trains for traveling, which is causing losses for air business and most likely this is the reason that AAI is thinking over to relaunch the Airport.
