AGARTALA, Nov 11 (TIWN): Ace gymnast Dipa Karmakar, who narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the women's vault event at the Rio Olympics last year, has been conferred a D. Litt degree by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) today, during the tenth convocation of the institute on November 11.
Director A K Roy awarded Dipa with the degree at Rabindra Bhawan today.
The 24-year-old Tripura girl, who became the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics, finished fourth in the final round of the women's vault event at the Rio Olympics Games in Brazil last year.
Dipa Karmakar, is an artistic gymnast, who represented India at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is the first Indian female gymnast ever to compete in the Olympics, and the first Indian gymnast to do so in 52 years.
