AGARTALA, July 11 (TIWN): Along with the whole nation, Northeast Tripura also observed World Population day-2016.
However, like last year there was not much interest from the Govt to observe the day, neither Health Minister inaugurated any programme or rally this time.
Last year the programme was much colouful in compare to this year.
To celebrate this time around World Population 2017 theme is ‘Family Planning: Empowering People, Developing Nations’.
World Population Day is celebrated across the globe in an effort to bring the much-needed change in the mindset of its inhabitants. Overpopulation is affecting our lives on a daily basis, and it is going to worsen if concrete steps are not taken at the right time.
The World Population Day was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.
It took place on July 11, 1989, on the Five Billion Day, reportedly the date when world population mark touched five billion. It is celebrated with an aim to work on several important topics such as family planning, gender equality, maternal and infant health, malnutrition and poverty, which directly or indirectly responsible for the population explosion.
