Bishalgarh, June 12 (TIWN): During the cyclonic wave, a huge tree that collapsed on Monday morning blocked the Agartala- Bishramganj national highway for several hours, left hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides.
National Highway has become completely blocked from both the side after a giant old tree as fallen over the road at Sipahijala turned 2 hours journey into 4 hours atleast.
Motorists and vehicles are being diverted locally by members of the public at present after the tree fell and blocked the entire road.
The bi-cycles riders and the pedestrians are managing to crawl through under the fallen tree. No one has been injured in the incident, as the incident has occurred at the late night when the roads were not so busy.
Reportedly, after being informed by the locals, the forest official did not bother to arrive on the spot and to look into the matter.
According to the locals, till morning 9 am no officials had visited the spot. Agitated locals seeing no alternative took the initiative and started to chop the tree so that the traffic could get in to smooth convenience soon.
“Where it is the responsibility of the Forest Department to look in to the incident, no one among the officials visited the area. Therefore, we had to take initiative”, said a local.
