AGARTALA, Aug 9 (TIWN/IANS) Trinamool Congress President and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday claimed her party helped pass the Goods and Services Tax Bill in Parliament.
"We have helped to pass the GST Bill in Parliament. Many parties failed to do this," Banerjee said at a public gathering in Agartala.
She said: "We have shown how to pass a crucial bill. My Finance Minister Amit Mitra was the Chairman of GST Committee (of state finance ministers)."
Mitra was the chairman of the empowered committee of state finance ministers that worked out the details of the GST Bill, before it was approved by the Lok Sabha on Monday in an amended form. The bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha last week.
