NEW DELHI / AGARTALA May 29 (TIWN): Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi on Saturday said the Narendra Modi government has introduced many reforms to strengthen the Anganwadi system for tackling malnutrition, introduced a children's helpline and launched a national portal for lost and found children. But question arises how far Tripura's Anganwadi centers will utilize central govt''s plan as state's Anganwadi centers have remained under scams for providing poisonous mid-day-meal. "Healthy food" is a distance dream for rural Tripura's Anganwadi centers, here children's lives are kept under threat of death as many unwanted incidents held in state after students consumed Govt. schools and Anganwadi centers' mid-day-meals."As soon as we came to power, we decided to develop the Anganwadi system and provided a tablet to every Anganwadi to track their work, which will help in reducing malnutrition over the next two years," said Gandhi. Now doubt remains how far state Tripura will utilize central govt.'s plan?
She said the government has introduced a children's helpline 1091 in several cities. "Eleven lakh children were rescued in February, while 13 lakh were provided help in March through this helpline facility," Gandhi said.
She also said that the central government has launched a national portal for lost and found children. Hundreds have been found with its help.
Gandhi was speaking at a gala event "Ek Nayi Subah" being held at the India Gate lawns here on Saturday to mark the completion of two years of the Narendra Modi government. The event is being held in "talkathon" format with ministers answering queries put to them.
