TIWN

SONAMURA, May 9 (TIWN): Although Govt. claims for having ‘No beggar’, but TIWN also found a woman spends her livelihood by collecting woods from Jungle in Sonamura South Taibandal.
Poverty is a curse, but instead of taking attempts to reduce poverty, govt. here is cultivating poverty and Still in Village area there were poor people, beggar and child labours.
Women in rural areas end up investing valuable time and effort in collecting fuel instead of focusing on their children’s education or income generation possibilities. The north-eastern state of Tripura, another NGO – the Adivasi Mahila Samiti – is promoting the use of smokeless stoves which, says a program officer, “is cheaper than denuding forests”.
Having sustainable forms of energy for cooking will also free up women’s time for income generation that will help eradicate extreme poverty and hunger .Finally, clean household energy can also help ensure environmental sustainability .
